We see great and amazing updates from social media platforms nowadays. After Instagram’s announcement about testing the pin post comments back in May, Instagram has today confirmed that every Instagram users are able to pin up to three comments within their post-interaction streams.

Instagram’s VP of Product Vishal Shah notes, the option is designed to encourage more civil discussion and this is by “highlighting positive comments”, though how much difference it will make in practice remains to be visible and seen.

Back in April, the first and original concept was spotted in testing, besides being announced along with a wide range of features which are designed to allow users more control over their Instagram interactions, that includes the capacity to bulk delete comments, besides other options to limit who can tag or @mention you in their posts.

Moreover, in this context, comment pinning is most certainly focused on steering the conversation. On the other side, why the new feature “Pin posts comments” would stop someone from posting something negative is hard to say.

There is a possibility that people would see the pinned comments and re-think what would they say because they will get less exposure for their remarks by not getting into those top three comment slots?

Another thing, maybe Instagram users will go to more effort to post some similar comments as the pinned comments, in order to also get their comment pinned.

For brands, the feature will be another way just to highlight top responses to recognize enthusiastic members of the community and also highlight positive engagement.

On the other hand, pin post comments will be varyingly beneficial but it will be based on account engagement and size. The new feature “Pin post comments” will be an amazing way to amplify the common questions and answers.

For instance, if someone asks a common question or a good question about your product, you can easily pin the comment then reply, this will help profile visitors get more context.

It should be mentioned that there is also risk by pinning the most positive comments, as it could be seen as a try to bury more critical remarks but used with sensibility and caution, so there is a wide range of options to consider.
