Americans carry the internet in their pockets. The smartphone also lives in the pockets of 84% of American consumers. It appears that everyone in the US owns more than one type of “smart” device. Read the below points and be aware of which devices different demographics of the American adults prefer to use and what exactly they are doing on them.

The Use of Smartphone in the US Among American Adults

  • Over 80% of adults in the US own a smartphone. Android phones are narrowly more popular than iPhones, particularly with men.
  • Making phone calls and sending/receiving messages or emails are the most activities that American adults do most on their smartphones with rates of 77%, 68% and 57% respectively.
  • Watching videos and using GPS navigator are the most actions have taken on smartphones in the month that previous the survey (52% for both of action).

Mobile Gaming on Smartphones in the US

  • 32% of smartphone owners said they mostly use their phones to game.
  • Almost half of the smartphone owners have played a game on their phone in the month that previous the survey.
  • 42% of Americans with games on their phones report playing multiple times per day.

Virtual Assistants in the American House

  • Only 38% of American adults in the US currently have a Smart TV as a smart home connected devices.
  • 26% are planning to purchase a Smart TV in the future, the vast majority of them (36%) are Americans age 18-34 years old.

Data were driven from 1,713 adults in the United States (aged 18 and up). The ‘2018 Devices and Demographics survey’ was conducted online within the United States on January 24, 2018.
