Twitter Is the First Choice for 77% of Internet Users in Middle East to Get & Share News, 2017 | Northwestern University in Qatar

There is a rate of 66% of all nationals in the Middle East are getting news and information on social media every day according to a survey conducted by Northwestern University in Qatar.

Generally, Twitter is used more than any other platform to get and share news in the Middle East – the 6 countries surveyed -, followed by Facebook with rates of 77% and 71% respectively. Both YouTube and Google Chat/Hangouts ranked in the third level with a rate of 56% for both of them, while both WhatsApp and Instagram lagged behind with a rate of 46% for both of them too.

It worth to be mentioned that, the vast majority of all Twitter users use the service for news regardless of their age: 72% for who aged 18-24 years old, 78% for 25-34 years old, 83% for 35-44 years old and 81% for 45+ years old.

On another side, Facebook is the top social media platform for getting news in Lebanon (54%), Jordan (41%), UAE (40%) and Tunisia (39%).
