Asia Pacific Region Owned the Largest Unique Mobile Subscribers Number 2017 | GSMA

At the end of 2016, 65% of the world’s population had a mobile subscription, a total of 4.8 billion unique mobile subscribers. The total is set to reach 5 billion in mid-2017.

As shown in the below indicator, the Asia Pacific region has the highest number of unique mobile subscribers, followed by Latin America, Sub-Saharan Africa & MENA region.  The Asia Pacific will add around 571 million unique subscribers, representing two-thirds of new subscriber growth globally over the next 4 years.

Annual subscriber growth in Sub-Saharan Africa the world’s most under-penetrated region is expected to be 6.2%.
